Best Neighborhoods in Atlanta if You Like to Exercise

Has the New Year got you thinking about a “new you?” Most of us have fitness at the top of our 2015 resolutions list, including us at Beacham & Company. If you live in Atlanta, it shouldn’t be too hard to accomplish your goals. This city has many parks, trails, and specialty gyms that can help you this year. Listed below are the best neighborhoods for you if you want to get in shape and start healthy habits in 2015.

Buckhead

Long considered the home of some of Atlanta’s oldest and finest families, Buckhead has recently been discovered by energetic young professionals. Despite its cosmopolitan air, you can walk, jog, or run along tree-lined streets past quaint cottages, high-rises, and traditional brick homes.

And if working out outdoors is not your favorite, you can try out some of the neighborhood’s best gyms. Flywheel has recently established itself in Buckhead. The gym offers specialty cycling classes, along with Flybarre classes to sculpt your muscles. The gym boasts the best workout playlists in the city.

Midtown

A haven for young families because of its excellent school districts, Midtown boasts generous green spaces in a bustling urban setting. Perfect your backhand at the tennis courts at Piedmont Park or beat your best time out on the athletic fields that are open to residents year-round. Dotted with bookstores and coffee shops, you can easily stop by for a leisurely cup of your favorite hot beverage to or from your yoga class.

Only Yoga is a great studio located right on Peachtree Street. The studio welcomes beginners and experts with challenging, hot classes and “community” yoga for the newbies.

Virginia Highlands

Virginia Highlands is an up-and-coming neighborhood that offers ethnic food and a strong local music scene. Young professionals, college professors, and entrepreneurs now call this district home. Freedom Park provides the ideal spot for early morning calisthenics or an invigorating afternoon run before heading out for a pint at the local pub.

Brookhaven

Sitting on the northern edge of Buckhead, Brookhaven (sometimes referred to as West Brookhaven) has pockets of densely wooded areas, rolling hills, and lush vegetation. Its shady, broad, and winding streets are perfect for your favorite cardio exercise. Go past majestic Tudor houses, elegant Georgian residences, and sturdy Colonials as you pace yourself or try to break your best under a minute's distance.

Druid Hills

A popular historic district in Atlanta, Druid Hills is an affluent area dotted with parks that are ideal for almost any type of exercise whether it’s tossing a Frisbee, playing flag football or simply taking a long, leisurely walk. Also, in the parks you can join FitWit. FitWit is an exercise program sweeping Atlanta. It offers boot camp-style classes that take place in many areas of the city, including North Druid Hills. With FitWit, you get personalized training in a group atmosphere.

These and many other metro Atlanta neighborhoods are excellent communities to put down roots and carve out a healthy, active lifestyle for you and your loved ones.
