Located right in the center of DeKalb County, Avondale Estates is a small city of approximately 3,000 people. Because it is located both inside the Interstate 285 perimeter but outside of the Atlanta city limits, it appeals to both the urban and suburban lifestyle. The city itself is beautiful with its Tudor-style commercial district and cozy neighborhoods designed to resemble its namesake, England’s Stratford-upon-Avon. Residents are very friendly and place a heavy importance on the arts, independence, and education.

Throughout the year, you’ll find several community-oriented activities taking place in Avondale Estates. For example, the Avondale Arts Alliance sponsors an annual AutumnFest Arts & Music Festival which features artists from all over the Southeast. The city also has its own beautiful lake and Lake House which is available to rent for parties, reunions, dinners, and weddings. The Avondale Swim and Tennis Club is a great place to get some exercise or attend regular events like brunches, lobster boils and ice cream socials. The Tudor-style commercial district in downtown Avondale Estates is home to dozens of art galleries, boutiques, antique shops, and restaurants. Of course the city is just minutes away from some of Georgia’s most popular attractions, like Stone Mountain Park, Zoo Atlanta, and the Atlanta Botanical Gardens.
Depending on what you are looking for, you might find a home in Avondale Estates for as low as $100,000 to as high as $1 million. Most tend to fall within the $300,000 to $400,000 range. There are some condos and apartments here, but most of what you’ll find are single-residence homes. Ranches and split-levels built during the 1960s are popular, as are the city’s well-known Tudor-influenced historic homes. Some new construction can be found within the city limits, as well.
The youngest residents of Avondale Estates will attend DeKalb County Schools, including Avondale Elementary School, Avondale Middle School, and Druid Hills High School. The DeKalb School of the Arts magnet school, and the Museum School of Avondale Estates charter school are also located in the neighborhood. Private schools near Avondale Estates include The Friends School and The Waldorf School of Atlanta. Many colleges and universities are also located nearby, including the world-famous Emory University.
