Loring Heights is considered to be something of a hidden gem in Atlanta. Bound by Northside Drive to the west and Peachtree Street to the east, it sits just north of Atlantic Station and Georgia Tech, which makes is a popular destination for an eclectic mix of people. You’ll find young families here, as well as young, single professionals, and people who have lived in the neighborhood for decades. Despite its location in the midst of the city, it’s also a pretty peaceful place to live.
Things to Do
Because of its prime location, Loring Heights residents have no trouble finding something to do right in their own backyard. One of the biggest draws to the area is the Atlantic Station outdoor mall which is home to a movie theater; retail stores like Ikea, Target, Old Navy, and Dillard’s; and restaurants like Atlantic Grill, Meehan’s, Tin Drum, and Café Nineteen. Atlanta’s Woodruff Arts Center is practically across the street from Loring Heights. It is home to the Alliance Theatre, the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, and the High Museum of Art. Loring Heights is also close to several Downtown attractions like the Georgia Aquarium and Centennial Olympic Park.
There are just over 300 homes in Loring Heights, making it a small, intimate place to live. The majority of these homes are cozy Craftsman bungalows and cottages. Many of them were built in the 1940s and 1950s, but there is some newer construction here, too. Unlike the surrounding areas, Loring Heights has plenty of green space in the form of parks, tree-lined streets, and gorgeous lawns and gardens. You can find homes for as low as $250,000 here, with several in the $400,000 to $600,000 range, and some even sell for $1 million or more.
Even though the neighborhood sits further south than most of Buckhead’s coveted communities, students living here can still attend some of the district’s top schools, including East Rivers Elementary School, Sutton Middle School, and North Atlanta High School. The prestigious Georgia Institute of Technology or Georgia Tech is located just south of the neighborhood which makes it a popular place to live for staff and alumni. Private schools in the area include Atlanta International School, The Howard School, Paideia School, and Christ the King School.
