Atlanta has a reputation for being a city with plenty of parks and green space, and the Buckhead community is no different. From small neighborhood ponds to new walking trails, here is a look at some of the locals’ favorite parks and recreation areas.
1. Path400
The first phase of Path400 opened in 2015 and serves as a paved half-mile trail that leads from Lenox to Old Ivy Road. Eventually, it will be 5.2 miles long and connect 27 neighborhoods, schools, parks, and the Atlanta Beltline. It is ideal for walkers, joggers, and cyclists.
2. Atlanta Memorial Park
The 199-acre Atlanta Memorial Park sits on historic land and is the home of the infamous Bitsy Grant Tennis Center and the Bobby Jones Golf Course. It offers beautiful scenery along Peachtree Creek, as well as ball fields, playgrounds, trails, and picnic areas. The park is located on Woodward Way.
3. Chastain Park
Chastain Park is probably Buckhead’s most famous park, in part, because of the large outdoor concert venue located there, the Chastain Park Amphitheater, which hosts the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra as well as several big names in the music industry. Other features at the park, which is located on W. Wieuca Road, include a golf course, tennis courts, a gymnasium, a pool, stables, a trail, a playground, and picnic areas.
4. Tanyard Creek Park
Tanyard Creek Park is one of Atlanta’s favorite neighborhood parks. Located in the Collier Hills neighborhood, the park features beautiful scenery and a great deal of history as the land played a major role in the Civil War. It is like a little oasis in the midst of the busy city. Atlanta magazine once named it the “Best Place to Take Your Pet.”
5. Frankie Allen Park
Frankie Allen Park in the Garden Hills neighborhood is a popular spot for baseball in Buckhead. In addition to the baseball diamonds, it has tennis courts and a beautiful field with great places to have a picnic.
6. Peachtree Hills Park
Peachtree Hills Park off Peachtree Hills Avenue is another great neighborhood park. It features a playground, tennis courts, a baseball field, and a community garden. There is also plenty of greenery around to provide a nice, relaxing ambience.
7. The Duck Pond
Located in the Peachtree Heights neighborhood, you will find the Duck Pond, a popular spot in Buckhead for anyone who just wants to get away from it all and watch the ducks, turtles, and other birds play in the water. It is also a wonderful place for dog walking.
8. Garden Hills Pool
The pool in the Garden Hills neighborhood is a popular destination for Buckhead residents. Annual memberships are available, or you can pay a daily fee. The pool offers plenty of seating, a clubhouse, and a playground, and there is even a wading pool for little ones.
