Check Out All the Changes to the Westside

Atlanta’s Westside has been steadily developing since the late ’90s, but it is only within the last decade that the neighborhood has fully matured into a center for fine shopping, award-winning dining and luxury living. The Westside, commonly referred to as West Midtown, is also home to a thriving arts scene.

If you’re not familiar with the evolution of this vibrant Atlanta neighborhood, be sure to get to know it! The Westside features a unique mosaic of things to do and see. It’s where Southern Charm meets mid-century industrial architecture, and where upscale lifestyle meets flat out fun.

Attracting the Arts

The Westside is full of relics from Atlanta’s industrial boom, and these sprawling buildings are being put to use. The King Plow Arts Center, one of Atlanta’s historic landmarks, houses Actor’s Express, Counter Culture Coffee and the Food Studio, among other production companies, dance studios, art galleries and even a circus arts school. It’s also home to Terminal West, an offbeat music venue that allows patrons to enjoy music and drinks as well as a scenic view of historic train tracks. This venue is increasing in popularity and scope: the 2012 “Best New Venue” award winner expanded to include Stationside, a Tuesday-Friday lunch and dinner joint.

The Goat Farm Arts Center, made famous for its role in “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire,” is also a one of the Westside’s gems. Located in West Midtown, this hybrid space serves as the home to literally hundreds of artists, performers, start-ups and dozens of concerts and performances each year. It wasn’t until 2009 that this Atlanta icon shed its industrial past in exchange for a vibrant cultural future.

Eat Like a King

The Westside offers a food scene all it’s own.

The most celebrated restaurant in all of Atlanta, Bacchanalia, is located in the neighborhood. Located in Star Provisions, Bacchanalia serves contemporary American cuisine. All of the ingredients are fresh and sourced from the Chef/Owners’ farm. You can try all that Bacchanalia has to offer with its five-course, prix fixe dinner menu, or order the items a la carte.

After you try Bacchanalia, you can visit Taqueria Del Sol, Bocado, JCT Kitchen and Ormsby’s. Each restaurant on the Westside offers an entirely unique dining experience — and you must visit each one.

Luxury Living

Urban lofts have been the residence of choice for many homeowners in the Westside, but new construction is also a major player in the area’s housing market. The entire neighborhood owns its industrial roots in much of its architecture and design. The Westside’s residential district is seconds away from several music venues, art galleries, restaurants and boutiques and only minutes away from Buckhead, Downtown and all of Atlanta’s major interstates.

This growing neighborhood is a great place to live, work and play, and it’s only one of the several amazing communities that Atlanta has to offer. Check out our homes for sale in Atlanta neighborhoods that you adore, or read more about the communities that we serve!
