Beacham & Company is excited to welcome our new neighbor, King + Duke, the latest restaurant concept of Atlanta chef- entrepreneur extraordinaire, Ford Fry. Arguably Atlanta’s most anticipated restaurant opening of 2013, King + Duke offers “Colonial American” cuisine and is located in the space that was formerly home to Nava at the corner of West Paces Ferry and Peachtree Roads. The King + Duke officially opened this week.

This is Fry‘s fourth restaurant; each one (JCT Kitchen, No. 246, and the Optimist) has a unique food concept. With the King + Duke, Fry and executive chef Joe Schafer sought to recreate the atmosphere of a tavern or public house using early American cooking techniques. The menu features wood-roasted meat, fish and fowl cooked on a 24-ft open hearth. The restaurant’s interior (Meyers Davis Studio Inc.) capitalizes on the theatrical element of this unique cooking style by giving almost every table a direct view of the hearth.

The name King + Duke is a nod to two characters from Mark Twain’s novel, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Huck and Jim take the characters aboard their raft just before the start of their Arkansas adventures. The middle-aged “duke” claims to be the long-lost Duke of Bridgewater, while the elderly “king” claims to be the long-lost Dauphin of France.

The foodie blog, Eater’s was able to get an inside look at the restaurant. Check out these photographs taken by Sarah Dodge.
