What’s going on this Labor Day? More Like What’s Not Going on!

Happy Labor Day weekend! If you’re planning on having a Labor Day Stay-cation in Atlanta instead of heading out of town with the other half of the Atlanta population, don’t worry, there are plenty of things coming to you.

Kick off the weekend with SEC football! Starting tonight, Friday, August 31st at 7:30 p.m. with the Tennessee vs. N.C. State game, the Georgia Dome will be swarming with screaming football fans who have been holding in their team spirit since last season. Then, tomorrow,  Saturday, September 1st at 7:00 p.m., the Dome will hose the the Auburn vs. Clemson game!

If you’re planning on going to the Auburn vs. Clemson game, or if you just want to party with everyone who is, make a day out of it with the Shepherd Center. They’ll be hosting, not just any tailgate, but “The Tailgate” in the parking lot across the street from Vine City MARTA and the Georgia Dome from 3:00 until 7:00p.m. Tickets to this event include food truck food, an open bar, tents with plenty of seating, and live music. All proceeds from The Tailgate benefit Shepherd Center’s SHARE Military Initiative, a comprehensive rehabilitation program for service men and women who have sustained a traumatic brain or spinal injury and PTSD in the Afghanistan and Iraq conflicts.

Football’s not your thing? What about a bunch of people dressed up as characters from the world of science fiction? If dressing up as a Hobbit or Superwoman is more your speed, check out Dragon*Con. Five well-known Atlanta hotels will be hosting this event starting tonight, August 31st, and going through Monday, September 3rd. What to expect? Almost 30,000 people dressed up as characters from your favorite science fiction video games, books, and movies, tons of artwork, and more science fiction fans than you ever knew existed.

Name another place you can go where you can cheer on SEC football on Friday and Saturday and dress up as a your favorite science fiction character on Sunday and Monday. We didn’t think you could! Have a great long weekend!
