Milton has only been a city since 2006, but in that short time, it has become one of Atlanta’s most peaceful and charming suburbs. With a population of around 33,000, it sits just north of Alpharetta and about 30 to 35 minutes north of Atlanta. There are many prestigious golf and country clubs in the area, but the farm and equestrian life is big here, too. The schools are also some of the best in the state of Georgia.
Things to Do
One thing Milton is known for is its top-rated restaurants. From delicious Italian to savory Asian cuisine, places like Olde Blind Dog Irish Pub, Zola Italian Bistro, and Ru San’s, are huge hits with the locals. The city also holds exciting activities for residents and visitors like the annual fall Crabapple Fest which features games, rides, music, shopping, wine, and much more for families of all ages. Like its neighbors, Alpharetta and Johns Creek, golf is a major draw to the Milton area. When it opened in 1992, Golf Digest named Milton’s Trophy Club of Atlanta as the country’s “Best New Public Course.” The Alpharetta Athletic Club and White Columns Country Club are also located here. Equestrian life is also big in Milton and the surrounding areas, and places like the Fox Croft Farm Equestrian Center are popular with local horse enthusiasts. For shopping, Alpharetta’s North Point Mall is just a few miles away from Milton. It’s one of the biggest malls in the United States.
Homes in Milton tend to cost a little more than its suburban counterparts. In 2013, the average residence sold for just over $600,000. The community is made up a mixture of gated country clubs with multi-million dollar homes, mid-level swim and tennis communities, and some of the most gorgeous horse and farmland in the state. Some popular Milton neighborhoods are White Columns, Triple Crown and Providence at Atlanta National.
Almost all of the public schools in Milton have received state and national accolades. Four elementary schools serve the city: Crabapple Crossing, Birmingham Falls, Cogburn Woods, and Summit Hill. Middle school students will attend either Hopewell or Northwestern Middle Schools in Alpharetta, while high school students are zoned for Milton High School or Cambridge High School. Milton also has three private schools: Chandler Academy, Saint Francis Schools, and Mill Springs Academy.
Life in Milton
Milton is, by far, one of Atlanta’s wealthiest suburbs, but unlike some of the other posh cities in the metro area, it’s further away from the city, which means plenty of space for gorgeous golf courses, pristine farmland and pastures, and sprawling family-friendly communities with countless amenities. This makes it an excellent choice for families and professionals who just want to get away from it all.
