Located just east of Ansley Park and north of Virginia Highland, Morningside is one of Atlanta’s larger neighborhoods with over 3,500 residences. It’s also one of the city’s oldest. Most of its homes were built in the early 20th century on beautifully-landscaped lawns, but that’s not Morningside’s only appeal. Parks, boutiques, cafes, and coffee shops are scattered throughout, making the community feel like its own little town in the middle of a major city.
Things to Do
Morningside is convenient to almost everything in Atlanta, but there is so much to do inside the community that you may never want to leave. There are around 200 independent businesses here, including retail shops, coffee shops, and popular eateries like Doc Chey’s Noodle House, Rosebud, Fat Matt’s Rib Shack, and The Colonnade. For dessert, the world-famous Alon’s Bakery is located here, too. Morningside’s southwestern border sits next to the beautiful Atlanta Botanical Gardens. The 30-acre Morningside Nature Preserve is also popular with residents, as is the 25-acre Daniel Johnson Nature Preserve which sits on the community’s eastern border. Several popular golfing spots are located near Morningside, including the Ansley Golf Club, the Piedmont Driving Club, and the Druid Hills Golf Club.
Many residents consider Morningside to be one of Atlanta’s most walkable neighborhoods because of its quiet, winding, and hilly streets that are lined with mature trees and beautiful architecture. Many of the homes in the area look as if they were built in London instead of Atlanta with their Jacobean and Tudor facades. A number of cottages and bungalow-style homes can also be found in Morningside. In 2013, the average home in the neighborhood sold for just over $680,000.
Morningside is definitely a great place to raise a family, not just for the atmosphere, but because of great public and private schools that serve the area. Elementary-age students have their own school that sits in the heart of the neighborhood, Morningside Elementary. It has received state recognition for its academic programs. Older students will attend Inman Middle School and Henry W. Grady High School. The Children’s School, Paideia School, The Ben Franklin Academy, and Heritage Preparatory School are just a few of the private schools located within a short commute.
Life in Morningside
Morningside residents enjoy the laid-back atmosphere of the suburbs, the beautiful scenery of the countryside, and the convenience of living in one of the country’s busiest cities all at once. This is what makes it one of the most sought-after neighborhoods in the Atlanta area. Whether you are a parent looking for the perfect spot to raise your family or a commuter looking for a little peace and quiet without a long commute into the city, Morningside has it all.
