Right up Georgia 400, just north of Alpharetta is Forsyth County, one of Atlanta’s most northern suburbs, as well as one of its most exclusive. Forbes magazine named it one of the wealthiest counties in the United States in 2008. It is also the wealthiest county in Georgia. Many people who work in Atlanta are moving to the area because of its quick commute, as well as its proximity to the beautiful scenery of Lake Lanier and the Blue Ridge Mountains. The only incorporated city there is Cumming, but it is also home to several popular unincorporated communities.
Things to Do
Georgia’s world-famous Lake Lanier forms part of Forsyth’s eastern border. People come from all over the United States to boat, camp, fish, hike, hunt, swim, and participate in popular watersports at the 37,000-acre lake. In addition to the lake, Forsyth is home to 15 stunning parks with hiking trails, picnic spots, playgrounds, historic landmarks, ball fields, aquatic centers, and much more. Keeping with its rustic surroundings, the area hosts an annual country fair at the Cumming Fairgrounds, as well as activities like a rodeo, Christmas and Fourth of July celebrations, and a Taste of Forsyth. Stars and Strikes is a great way to spend a day with the family or participate in a bowling league. There are also many places to golf in Forsyth, including the popular Lanier Golf Club. For upscale shopping, dining, and a movie, take a trip to The Collection at Forsyth.
As of 2008, the median income in Forsyth was about $85,000 and it continues to grow, making the area a highly sought-after upscale suburb with many choices for luxury living. Variety is key here. You might find a charming mountain cabin, a sprawling brick ranch, a traditional two-story, or a European-style estate, depending on where you look. Forsyth offers several gated golf and swim and tennis communities, as well as single-family homes on beautiful pastoral farmland. As of early 2014, the average sales price for a residence was just under $400,000.
Forsyth has its own school system which is home to 19 elementary schools, nine middle schools, and five high schools, including a virtual academy and a non-traditional charter school. Forsyth area private schools include Cornerstone Schools, Covenant Christian Academy, and Pinecrest Academy.
Life in Forsyth
Forsyth is unlike any other suburb in Atlanta in that its natural beauty and access to the great outdoors are just as close, if not closer, than its access to Atlanta. Commuters who want to get away from it all choose to call the area home for this reason, as do families who want a peaceful way of life.
