Just inside the western boundaries of Druid Hills sits a popular little neighborhood called Toco Hill. With almost as much commercial space as there is residential, residents can find multiple things to do there without leaving the community. Of course, Toco Hill is located in DeKalb County which offers everything from fine shopping and dining to golf and fun-filled family attractions. It’s also just minutes from Atlanta which makes it a dream neighborhood for commuters.
Things to Do
The Toco Hill Promenade offers 145,000 square feet of retail and dining space with stores and restaurants such as Publix, PetSmart, Roost Gifts and Décor, Camp Woof, Maddio’s Pizza Joint, and Menchie’s Frozen Yogurt. Other restaurants in the neighborhood include Outback Steakhouse, Top Spice Thai & Malaysian Cuisine, Famous Pub, and Bagel Palace. There is even more shopping located just outside the community at North DeKalb Mall and Buckhead’s upscale malls, Lenox Square and Phipps Plaza. Plenty of small parks, such as Thompson Park and Medlock Park surround the area. The Mason Mill Recreation Center even has a brand new dog park. Civic-minded residents can get involved with the Toco Hills Community Alliance which provides assistance to Atlanta-area residents in need. The Martial Arts Center Atlanta is also located here in Toco Hill.
Around 10,000 people live in the Toco Hill area. The average price of a home is between $350,000 and $400,000, and most of the homes sit on peaceful, wooded lots. The residential parts of Toco Hill are relatively quiet and laid-back compared to surrounding neighborhoods. Many of the area’s subdivisions are swim and tennis communities. While there are some apartments, townhomes, and condos in the area, the majority of houses are spacious brick ranches built during the 1950s and 1960s.
Toco Hill is located within the DeKalb County public school system. Students will most likely attend Briar Vista Elementary School, Druid Hills Middle School, and Druid Hills High School which is an International Baccalaureate World School. It was also recently renovated. Many great private schools are also located in the area, including Ben Franklin Academy, Yeshiva Ohr Yisrael of Atlanta, Cliff Valley School, and Arbor Montessori School. The prestigious Emory University is also just a few miles away.
