Lavista Park is a small community that sits just off Interstate 85 in DeKalb County’s North Druid Hills neighborhood. Led by the Lavista Park Civic Association, the upscale neighborhood is the type of place where young couples move and spend a lifetime watching their children and grandchildren grow up. For this reason, Lavista Park is a tight-knight place where neighbors get to know one another. Many of them even work together at Emory University, the Centers for Disease Control, and other local employers.
Things to Do
Because of its unique location, Lavista Park offers plenty of opportunities for shoppers. Just across the interstate to the north is Atlanta’s popular Buckhead district which is known for its shopping and nightlife. Its upscale malls, Lenox Square and Phipps Plaza, are home to designer boutiques like Louis Vuitton, Burberry, and Prada. Head south into Virginia Highland, one of Atlanta’s Midtown neighborhoods, and check out its independent boutiques that sell everything from clothing and jewelry to art and antiques or have lunch at a trendy café. Just outside of Lavista Park is the Elwyn John Wildlife Sanctuary which features walking trails and gorgeous views of the Atlanta skyline. Other exciting attractions in the area include the Atlanta Botanical Gardens, the fabulous Fox Theatre, and the historic Capital City Country Club.
Lavista Park is home to both older homes and some new construction. The older homes are mostly spacious brick ranch-style residences that might cost anywhere from $250,000 to $550,000 and were built around the 1950s. The newer homes tend to be more upscale and might cost anywhere from $500,000 to over $1 million. Like many of DeKalb County’s in-town neighborhoods, Lavista Park homes sit on large, wooded lots with mature trees and beautiful landscaping, some of which is as old as the homes themselves. Some private schools in the area include The Friends of Atlanta School, Atlanta International School, and Academe of the Oaks.
Lavista Park is located in the DeKalb County public school system district. Its children usually attend Briar Vista Elementary School, Druid Hills Middle School, and the recently renovated Druid Hills High School.
Life in Lavista Park
Lavista Park residents love their amenities. They are close to Buckhead, Midtown, Virginia Highland, and Brookhaven, which means plenty of opportunities when it comes to shopping, dining, or just having a good time. However, the true value of living in Lavista Park lies within its residents. Neighbors usually end up becoming close friends here, and they work together to keep the neighborhood beautiful, as well as help each other out when the need arises. That is something that money can’t buy.
