Creating The Perfect Learning Space

In early spring parents found their worlds turned upside down and seemingly overnight they were asked to work, teach and parent from home. At the time they made do, carving out quiet corners for test taking and conference calls. As the summer progressed, it looked more and more like going back into the classroom might not be an option. Beacham and Company came up with a list of how to make the most of your home/school/work environment.

1. CREATING A LEARNING SPACE

  • Clutter Free

  • Natural Light

  • Comfortable Seating

  • Hang Up Educational Posters

2. MAKE A SCHEDULE

  • Tardy Bell- Don’t let them sleep in!

  • Specific Start Time for Each Morning to Begin Work

  • A daily checklist is helpful for focusing on tasks

  • Adjust schedule if more time is needed on certain subjects

3. DISCIPLINE & STRUCTURE

  • Take away TV, Phones, Social Media browsing during school hours

  • Allow for exercise, or a P.E. period each day, this helps reduce stress and anxiety, but improves memory and problem solving skills

  • Allow for other breaks during day, phone time etc.

4. ACCESSIBILITY FEATURES

  • Computers and tablets have built-in technology that can help with kids who cannot read yet, struggle to read or are auditory learners

  • Is your child’s teacher allowing 1v1 zoom calls to help?

  • YouTube offers great, FREE, learning tutorials
