Create a Dramatic Backdrop
When it comes to designing a garden, going to the dark side isn’t always a bad thing. If you want to create a modern garden with clean lines and allow the foliage to speak for itself, consider going dark. Dark walls make bright flowers appear brighter, your eye will immediately be drawn to the bold colors. Most are under the impression that black makes things feel small, but in regards to exteriors, a seamless contrast is made between the greenery and black exteriors, fading all harsh lines.
Other features that contribute to modern landscaping are the use of natural local materials, nixing those fussy plants and outdated furniture and using consistent colors, textures and shapes. The whole idea around having a “Mod Garden” is to allow the green space to enhance the architectural features of the home, not overpower it.
