Peachtree Road Race Celebrates 50 Years!

Posted on June 20, 2019

The Peachtree Road Race is the most anticipated event of the summer in Atlanta, scheduled for July 4th, 2019. This year is the 50th anniversary since the race’s conception in 1970. Sponsored by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the race has transformed from a humble 110-person endeavor to the largest 10K race in the world. Elite runners from around the globe make up some of the 60,000 spots in the race. This year is completely filled; zero spots left!

With this being the 50th race, there is extra hype surrounding this event, plus a lot of exciting commemorative events and promotions. Beloved Atlanta sports teams like the Braves and our Championship-winning ATL United FC offered discounted tickets and merchandise to race participants. For those more interested in indulging in other parts of Atlanta culture (aka food+drinks), Ponce City Market is offering discounts in tons of their stores and eateries to runners who show their bib the day of the race. Ever since the beginning, this race it has tied the Buckhead and Midtown communities together.

The 60,000 participants trekking from Buckhead’s Lenox Mall all to way to Midtown’s Piedmont Park will attract an even larger spectating crowd. The previous years average around 150,000 people. Great places to watch the runners are the start and finish of the course, the Peachtree Battle Shopping Center, Piedmont Hospital, The Cathedral of St. Phillip, and other local dining or beverage spots. No matter which location you choose, make sure you get there early, this year’s turnout is sure to be HUGE!
