Best Neighborhoods and Hideaways for Relaxing

The concept of “home” represents many things. It creates a sense of belonging, a focal point in the hustle and bustle of daily life. Home is our own little slice of serenity. It may surprise you to learn that Atlanta, the busiest metropolis in the Southeast, also boasts peaceful burroughs neatly tucked within view of the cityscape. Whether you’re a young family or a single professional, Atlanta has a place for you to call home. In fact, there are several blissfully quiet neighborhoods located conveniently near the city’s business district. Here are a few of our favorites:

Morningside

Founded in 1931, this sleepy neighborhood features over eleven parks and greenspaces. A security patrol monitors about 3,500 households on shady tree-lined streets, and the award winning Morningside Elementary School caters to Lenox Park, University Park, Noble Park, Johnson Estates and Hylan Park. Morningside is located north of Virginia Highland, east of Druid Hills and Ansley Park.

Peachtree Hills

This quaint neighborhood is flanked by Peachtree Street on the west and Lindbergh drive on the North. Residents enjoy the soothing sights and sounds of Peachtree Creek, which runs to the South of Peachtree Hills. The majority of homes in this eclectic, intimate neighborhood are comprised of craftsman homes and bungalows. Development in Peachtree Hills was originally begun in 1910, and while the city has continued to build around it, Peachtree Hills has remained a peaceful oasis flanked by towering trees and natural scenery.

Druid Hills

Druid Hills is just a few minutes north of the city’s business district, perfectly removed just far enough to avoid the traffic and noise of downtown. Beautiful historic Emory University is located in Druid Hills, which is one of Atlanta’s most affluent neighborhoods. Shaded parks, boutique restaurants and charming residences are just a small part of what makes this quite neighborhood so desirable.

Decatur

Despite its role as the county seat of DeKalb County, Decatur is the perfect quiet environment to enjoy the best of both the suburban and city life. This folksy little neighborhood is home to historic Agnes Scott College, several annual arts festivals and Eddie’s Attic, a national landmark in the music industry. Over the past two decades, the town has enjoyed a renaissance and is now considered one of Atlanta’s most family-friendly neighborhoods.
