What Is Happening to Zillow?

The announcement that ListHub’s stream of real estate listings will officially be closed to Zillow came as a shock to the general public, but many in the real estate industry have been opting out of Zillow for years.

Zillow’s contract with ListHub ends on April 7, and Zillow has chosen not to renew it. Their decision is leading many in real estate to speculate about what it could mean for the field.

The Break-Up

The reason behind the dissolving relationship between ListHub and Zillow began with Rupert Murdoch buying Move, Realtor.com and ListHub. Murdoch did not want Zillow to be involved, and thus, cut ties with the company.

The main reason why Murdoch has chosen to end his relationship with the company is the quality of Zillow listings attained from ListHub. These listings have increasingly come under fire for their lack of accuracy.

Whatever the reason, Zillow reportedly expects just a marginal number of listings to be affected when the split is finalized in April, but the company could be unpleasantly surprised.

Will Zillow Survive Without ListHub?

Zillow has its issues, and the primary one being that listings are not always accurate. The LA Times reported the Zillow’s “Zestimates” are inaccurate about 95 percent of the time.

Zillow will lose a significant amount of its housing content after the split occurs, and it is to be discovered how that will affect the company.
