Welcome the Holidays with the Pink Pig & Macy’s Great Tree Lighting

If you’re going to be in Atlanta this Thanksgiving, head over to Lenox Mall after you come out of your turkey comma. Every year, Atlantans soak up some holiday spirit with two beloved traditions; the Pink Pig and Macy’s Great Tree Lighting. Since 1953, the Pink Pig has been ranking high on every native Atlantan’s list of favorite childhood memories. Pricilla, as the attraction is lovingly called, first posted up at Rich’s in Downtown Atlanta. Back then, children would put on their Sunday best and head out for a day of shopping and of course, a much anticipated chance to ride the Pink Pig. In 2003, the new version of the ride relocated to Macy’s at Lenox Mall from Thanksgiving Day through New Year’s Day. Passengers aboard the Pig are taken through a storybook world that includes the original Pink Pig. Even though people don’t get decked out anymore for a trip to the mall, the holiday sentiment of the attraction has not been lost, and if you want to do the holidays like Atlantans do, this is a must.

If you really want to ring in the holidays Atlanta style, Macy’s Great Tree Lighting is another event you can’t miss. For 65 years now, crowds have been gathering on Thanksgiving night to celebrate and light the tree. This year, there will be a show featuring live musical performances and fun for the entire family! Crowds of more than 100,000 are drawn each year for the spectacular event as a special Atlanta Thanksgiving tradition.
