Chomp & Stomp Out of Buckhead and into Cabbagetown this Weekend!

Get out of the Buckhead bubble this Saturday, November 3rd and check out Cabbagetown’s annual Chomp & Stomp festival!  If you are not familiar with Cabbagetown (located just east of downtown Atlanta), the neighborhood was once home to the first textile processing mill in the south. The mill was surrounded by houses where mill workers lived. The mill closed long ago, and in recent decades the neighborhood has been revitalized and is described by residents as “a community of homes, rather than houses – where being a neighbor means more than sharing a fence.”

The festival will feature old-time bluegrass music like the tunes that were famous when mill workers lived in Cabbagetown. This family-friendly atmosphere will have fun stuff for everyone, especially the kids. Akbar Imhotep, the storyteller at The Wren’s Nest (former home of renowned Southern author Joel Chandler Harris), will be telling stories at noon. Imhotep recently won the Governor’s Award for Arts and Humanity and is well-known for his ability to capture the attention of his audience with his dynamic enthusiasm for the stories he shares. All day long, Brussel Sprouts Corner will be going strong with bubbles, puppets, balloons, face-painting, storytime, and games for kids of all ages – free of charge.  If that’s not enough, Chomp & Stomp will be throwing their annual chili cook off with samples until they run out. There’s nothing better on a cool November day than the season’s first batch of chili made by Cabbagetown’s best.
