Glennis Beacham of Beacham & Company was the listing agent on the sale. Beacham is not permitted to reveal the identity of the buyer.

Whitehall would mark the fourth transaction for Beacham & Company this year involving the sale of a home that was listed for more than $4 million. In fact, the company’s market share of homes sold for more than $2.5 million is 35 percent according to FMLS – more than any other company in north Atlanta.

Whitehall was designed by Atlanta architect Kenneth Lynch and completed in 1988. Over the last 20 years, the estate has come to embody the myth of the Old South for Atlantans and out-of-towners. In fact, Lynch was commissioned to design a house with many of the qualities found at Oak Alley, the antebellum classic in Louisiana. The mansion sits atop a hill on more than five acres overlooking Harris Trail at the intersection with Northside Drive, and is most recognizable for its 28 Doric-style columns that soar 25 feet high and support wide upper and lower level verandas.

Inside, the more than 20,000 square foot home features floors made of 200 year-old Louisiana heart pine that were salvaged from a New Orleans riverfront warehouse. Much of the wood used for the cabinets, paneling and the mansion’s two-inch-thick exterior doors was crafted from antique mahogany by artisans in Bath, England. The grounds feature extensive English gardens with elaborate fountains.

The Atlanta Decorators’ Show House and Gardens was held April 28-May 20 this year at Whitehall. The event benefited the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, for which Beacham has been a longtime volunteer and sponsor.
