Agent Spotlight: Anne Powers

Anne Powers

In 2008, Anne joined Beacham & Company as a first time agent. Her creative background allowed her to bring a fresh, creative perspective to the firm. Her experience organizing several charitable projects, conducting a small antiques and decorative art business on Bennett Street, and her professional background in advertising in public relations gave her the skills she needed to successfully buy and sell real estate in the metro Atlanta area.

“My favorite homes are those built from the 1920’s to the 1940’s and close to being in their original state.”

Having an appreciation for classic home and garden design, Anne studied to be a Phillip Shutze docent for the Atlanta History Center in 1990, and she and her husband purchased their own PhillipShutze-designed home on Habersham Road that same year. She also developed a love for gardening and from 1998-99 she was president of the Planters garden club. In 2010, she was invited to be a member of the Forward Arts Foundation, an organization devoted to benefiting the visual arts in Atlanta.

“I feel I am able to help my sellers prepare their home for resale by editing each room to give a more simple display allowing a buyer’s eye to reflect on the home instead of a multitude of objects.”

As an agent for Beacham & Company, Anne quickly achieved Multi-Million Dollar Club status and was a Top 15 Agent Company-wide in 2011. She has acquired many clients due to her excellent customer service, attention to detail, understanding of the industry, and her knowledge of the Buckhead real estate market.  Anne has most enjoyed working diligently to help her clients accomplish their housing goals with a determination to navigate them through the home-buying and selling process, no matter how long it may take, while making their best interest more important than her own.

“I am most impressed with all Beacham agents and their total devotion to the profession.”

When did you get into real estate and why?

I joined Beacham & Company in November of 2008 as a first-time Realtor.  I decided go into real estate after years of being a full-time mother and wife, devoting any spare time toward volunteer work, tennis, gardening, and selling antiques from two small spaces at Interiors Market and The Stalls on Bennett Street.  By 2008, my husband who is a vascular surgeon at Piedmont Hospital, began to work even longer hours due to a new practice opportunity, and my antiques were no longer selling because of the downturn in the economy.  I decided it was time to reinvent myself, and I did so by taking the real estate course!  Even though the market was supposedly slow, I couldn’t have joined at a more interesting time.  I quickly learned that even in a slow market, being a Realtor keeps me hopping!

What was your most memorable sale?

My most memorable sale has to be the one I sold recently at 150 Peachtree Battle Avenue.  I consider it one of Atlanta’s landmark houses, a 1930’s classic Tudor built of poured cement with a charming turret located on the corner of Peachtree Battle and Nacoochee. My favorite homes are those built from the 1920’s to the 1940’s which are close to being in their original state.  This particular home needed a total renovation and my clients, Kari and Matt Samuelson, were just the ones to pursue it.  Both were graduates of Georgia Tech with degrees in engineering. They weren’t afraid of the age and original condition of the house, but appreciated its quality construction and unique style.  We were able to buy the home at an excellent price, and my clients welcomed the opportunity to renovate the home and garden to the degree it deserves.

What special services do you provide for your client?

Spending more than 30 years decorating my own Phillip Schutze home on Habersham Road as well as continuously working to display my antique spaces over a period of 27 years, I feel I am able to help my sellers prepare their home for resale by editing each room to give a more simple display allowing a buyer’s eye to reflect on the home instead of a multitude of objects.  Also, with my newly established small business called Urnest Money, which I’ve recently opened at the outdoor space at The Stalls on Bennett Street, I can easily enhance the curb appeal of every client’s home.   What front door couldn’t be improved by a beautiful pair of antique urns filled with boxwoods or other seasonal plantings?  I’m thrilled that I’ve been able to connect my enjoyment of real estate with my love of classic garden elements.

As for buyers, I feel I can offer my appreciation of both traditional and contemporary architecture and share an enthusiasm for both if they are classic in nature.  In addition, I feel I have the patience to spend as long as it takes to help buyers find just the right home.  The search for a home is all about their needs, not mine, and if takes three years or three weeks, it’s important that the home fits the buyer’s budget, life-style and taste.  Also, I believe that my many years of purchasing antiques for resell involve the same negotiating skills necessary to get a good price for a home, and I enjoy this aspect of my business.

What are your goals for the Fall market?

My goal for the fall market is to sell my existing listings by Halloween and my upcoming new listings by Thanksgiving.  Then I’ll have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!  And so will my clients.

What sets Beacham & Company apart from other Atlanta real estate firms?

Beacham is the only company I’ve been associated with so I have no other experience for comparison.  However, I am most impressed with all Beacham agents and their total devotion to the profession.  Our broker, Dac Carver, continuously educates us on the current market and provides us with information to help us anticipate future trends.  Our marketing department is extremely talented and provides us with beautiful photography and marketing materials to further enhance each listing.  For these reasons, I’ve always been pleased with my choice to join Beacham & Company.
